Winged Victory of Samothrace – Original Contemporary Painting

Winged Victory of Samothrace is my contemporary interpretation of the legendary Greek sculpture, the Nike of Samothrace. I have always been drawn to the way this figure embodies both strength and grace, even in its fragmented form — a presence that feels powerful despite the passage of time.
Working in acrylic on canvas, I brought this timeless symbol into my own visual language. Layers of green, turquoise, and soft pink unfold against a clear blue ground, allowing the wings to move beyond marble stillness and into something vivid and alive. The colours shift between serenity and energy, suggesting motion rather than monument.
For me, this painting is about triumph in motion — about the spirit of victory that does not stand rigid, but flows forward. It reflects how ancient art continues to inspire resilience, transformation, and beauty in contemporary expression.
